Can I recharge a UK mobile phone in Canada. If so is there anything special that I would need?

My daughter is going to Canada for a month and I have been told that her DS cannot be recharged when she is there ( something to do with different voltages??? ) Does the same apply to mobile phone charging?|||I believe it is possible to buy an adapter that will allow such electrical equipment to be recharged. Try the travel dept of a large store.
