Can a new customer get a cheaper mobile phone deal?
I know that when your contract expires and you threaten to leave a mobile company, you'll normally get a special deal so that you stay.

How will I know if whether I passed my credit check after taking out a mobile phone contract online?
I have applied for a moblie phone contract yesterday with T Mobile over the internet and expect to be recieving the SIM over the next few days. However I am only just 18 years old and do not have a credit history, so am not entirely sure if I will pass the credit check or not. Will the company notify me if they are not going to be sending th SIM out?|||By law, if a company rejects you based on information in one your credit reports, they must tell you and must send you a letter informing you of your rights to a free copy of your credit report from whichever credit reporting agency they used. You will know that you were rejected when you get this letter.
If they approve you, they do not have to tell you, but you will know when you get the SIM.|||They should notify you just to be courteous. Usually a credit check like that one does not take long. Because it is not like a mortgage or credit card many mobile companies a re bit more flexible.
As an added bonus it will start your credit foundation off which to build.
A great tip would be to follow up on friday to see if your contract is finalized. Ask it like that, not if your credit is approved. If you speak with authority and are requesting contract information, you'll more likely get a positive answer.
Good Luck|||If you passed, they would let you know right away. Worst case scenario, you'll have to pay a deposit with a credit card. If you want your phone right away, I'd go into a TMobile store. Good luck!

How do you get a website to detect a mobile phone and direct it to the .mobi version of a site?
I'm trying to make sure my website is compatible with cell phones. Is there a way for a site to detect a mobile phone and forward it to it's .mobi version?|||Perhaps code it with mobile devices in mind in the very first place?
HTML5, jQuery (with jQuery Mobile etc) - I've designed a site for my wife, and it shows up brilliantly on all the devices I've tried so far - iPhone, iPad, Chromium on Ubuntu desktop, Opera on Windows desktop, Safari on Windows desktop etc. It doesn't look that great on my Nokia 6120 Classic, but who has those these days anyway? :) (Except me :()
There days, I really don't think there's any need to have a mobile version of a website - just code it for mobile browsers as the base anyway. You might lose some IE users, but do you really want them as visitors / users? :)
My 2c.
Cheers

How do you accelerate web browsing when connected to the internet by GPRS thru a mobile phone?
I am using my mobile phone's GPRS connection to connect to the internet thru a USB cable connected to my laptop. However when I browse the web I don't get the speed indicated in the network icon and it seems like the data received %26amp; sent is intermittent.|||I have the same deal and it appears to be related to how much the phone companie's network traffic is at any given time, as well as how good of a mobile phone connection that you have. Mine seems to never transfer at the 115Kb that Windows is indicating it is connected at. It could also be appearing slow because you are used to having a much higher speed connection and now are faced with a much slower one. The intermittent is likely because web pages are coming over in bits and spurts which have to be assembled by the browser before it can display anything. Bottom line though is that if you are getting anything through this connection it is more than nothing which is what you have if you are not connected by copper/fiber/cable modem/wireless router.|||All GPRS connections are not equal. For instance, T-Mobile is pretty much 56k (in my area). But, Verizon is about the speed of DSL. There maybe some configuration options in the properties of your network neighborhood for this connection. Look for performance or power save. Many of those cards come with optimal powersave which can affect performance.

Is the Motorola Clutch i465 for Boost Mobile a good starter phone?
Ok. My parents are getting me a new cell phone for my birthday! (This will be my first cell phone) They told me that I have to get one of the Boost Mobile phones, so I looked through all of them and I found the Motorola Clutch i465! Which is the cheapest mobile phone available with an inbulit GSM modem for internet connectivity through GPRS?
lookin to buy a cheap mobile phone, which can be used to connect to internet using data-cable. Preferbly a Nokia or Sony.|||The question has been raised just when it is the real research i have been carrying out. So far the observations show that to use the Nokia PC suite and a Nokia phone as a Modem, the phone it self should be having blue tooth and and at least some memory and thus one with a memory card is better. This makes it the cheapest Nokia phone having both the above requirements.
Can i use my Mobile phone instrumenent as a cordless for my land line phone?
I want to use my mobile phone instrument as cordless phone for my land line phone. Can this be possible|||During the day, I forward my land line to my cell phone. It costs $3 per month for the feature, but it is very handy. It should give you a list of codes for forwarding your phone in the front of your local phone book. Here with Iowatelecom, to turn the forwarding, you push "#72 "then enter the number you are wanting to forward to, and #73 to turn off.|||Are you asking if your cellular phone can be used to talk to your cordless phone's base?
Simple answer: No.
Cell phones use frequency bands and protocols that cordless phones are not built to use.

What's the best method of cleaning a touch-screen mobile phone?
Just got a touch screen mobile phone about a week ago, and I've started to notice fingerprints on it. What can I use to remove them without damaging the screen?
NOTE: I'm sure the instruction booklet tells me how, but I've misplaced it, hence why I've asked on Yahoo answers.|||The touch screen doesn't get damaged easily, so don't worry, but when it does, it's permanent. Im talking about really harsh hits, or too much pressure. Damages can go from screen going 'brighter' to the LCD break and causing a spot of a fixed color that spreads slowly. So? Well, only worry of treating well your screen and not scratching it, and you can clean your screen easier.
Also, if you buy a screen protector, you can boldly use your own shirt, and it will be fine. Don't ever use water or solvents.|||Actually, I've found that alcohol wipes do very well...like baby wipes. It gets the smudges off quite nicely and then doesn't leave smears. Also, if you could get a lint-free towel, those work nice, too.
Although those both work great, if you're in a pinch, I've seen the soft, inside part of one of my hoodies work wonders on my iPhone screen, too. :)|||switch it off
use a clean cloth and wipe it
easy!|||well while its turned off use a tissue or cloth thingy should work fine

How do you program a unlocked phone from Cingular or T-mobile?
Do you need a special code or can you just put your sim card on the new phone, even if it is from another company? Cingular sim with T-mobile phone or t-mobile sim with Cingular phone.|||If the phone is already unlocked, then all you have to do is pop in your sim card and go.|||Actually it's not possible. B/c the phone is with t-mobile.|||the phone (voice) service should work as soon as you put the sim card in it but if you have a media package (like internet, wap, picture messaging...) you have to contact your carrier and they will send you a message to enable your phone to use their sevices. but some might not work perfectly, like my voicemail doesn't work perfect, i get an empty message instead of a message saying i have a voicemail but i got used to it now, i don't care i like my phone.
Can I use a mobile phone bought from another country in NZ?
I live in New Zealand. If I bought a mobile phone on ebay from another country like Hong Kong, could I use it on the Vodafone network and put a sim card in it?|||As a person from the states, I wouldn't be able to use a mobile from another country unless the service provider allowed it. However, you are from New Zealand, so it would almost definitely be different. The safest route would be to check with the service provider.|||Yes, you can. I brought my phone with me from the US, but I had to have it "unlocked" to use the frequencies in New Zealand. Not a difficult thing to do and cost about $50NZD. Then bought a SIM card and have been using it without any problems since. It also works when I go back to the states, just get a SIM card and one month or so of service.
Can I have a Virgin Mobile BeyondTalk plan with a Paylo phone?
Ok so I want to buy a virgin mobile phone. I found out that the Paylo phones on the virgin website are much cheaper but they have a paylo plan. If I were to buy a paylo phone, can I have a beyondtalk plan instead. Is that possible? It would be so much helpful if a person who currently has a paylo phone with a beyondtalk plan would tell me. Anybody please! Thanks!|||I tried that and it didn't work. If you want a paylo plan, buy a paylo phone. If you want a beyondtalk plan, then get a beyond talk phone. Beyondtalk plans only work with beyondtalk phones, and vise versa.|||The paylo phones should also work with Beyond talk, its that the Beyond talk phones will NOT work with Paylo. I have two Virgin accts, the cheap $9.99 flip phone that claims its for Paylo I currently have on the $25 beyond talk the phone is called the LG Flare. I've had the beyond talk service on it since they came out with Beyond talk thats when I activated it so maybe they dont allow new people to do it I am not sure about that I just know it works and has always worked with my phone. I think they just push the cheap phones for paylo is because they are basic phones and have no full size keyboard like the beyond talk phones have. They all have a full size keyboard and or touch screen.|||It should work with the beyond talk plan, call virgin mobile if you want to double check.

Can an Tmobile phone be unlocked to work with Boost Mobile?
I have this really nice T-Mobile phone a friend gave me but i am with Boost mobile is there anyway that i might be able to unlock the phone to work with Boost Mobile?
My current phone is Sanyo Incognito and it has no sim card.|||This answer applies not only to Boost Mobile, but to Virgin Mobile, Net10 and other prepaid networks and systems.
You will not be able to make your T-Mobile phone (or ANY other non-Boost phone) work on Boost Mobile's network. It does not matter if your phone is GSM, CDMA or any other type of phone. It also will not matter whether your phone was from the Sprint, AT%26amp;T, Verizon or T-Mobile network.
The only phones that will work on Boost Mobile are phones specifically made for, programmed and sold on (and for) the site / network ... such as their Blackberry Curve 8530 or the Samsung Galaxy Prevail, to name a few.
They are programmed with specific, proprietary, different Enterprise-Level firmware. They do this intentionally, as it is the only way for a low-cost, prepaid network to survive.
If you could use any phone (or any other network's phone), many people would not buy Boost Mobile phones at all ... they'd buy inexpensive used or unlocked phones elsewhere, then go sign up for Boost, Virgin, or some other prepaid network.
This is also the reason why phones are often "free" or so inexpensive on one of the major networks - because they are relying on a minimum Two-Year Contract ... which a prepaid company can not get from you.
Some people Flash or Root their phones, thinking it will then work with Boost (happens all the time). Save yourself the time %26amp; effort, it will be a total waste and will render your phone useless.
BE CAREFUL - some people will give you answers, saying "if it has a SIM card should be ok" ... or "if its a Sprint phone it should work" ... or "as long as its CDMA you could probably use it". You see these answers all the time on questions like yours, they are ALWAYS wrong, and seem to be submitted by people who are trying to earn a point by answering some question (any question) with short, non-informed answers.
I'm in the business itself, and (by the way) a long-time user of Boost Mobile, it's phones and services. Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns you may have.|||No. The phone is GSM. Boost is not a GSM carrier.|||take it to the repair shop.

What type of screwdriver do you need to undo the screws on a mobile phone?
I bought a new case for my mobile phone yesterday and cannot seem to undo the screws due to irregularity shape of them. I can get the back covers off in order to get to these screws but i cannot seem too find a screwdriver that will undo them. If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Will any T-mobile phone work if I switch to a t-mobile prepaid plan?
I have used a Nokia with T-mobile for the past few years, but want to switch to a prepaid plan. At the same time, I want to upgrade to a bluetooth capable phone. Is the mobile phone test for microwave radiation effective?
I have a microwave oven that is only a few months old. It has never seemed 'right'. A little while ago I noticed that when it was heating food the light from inside the microwave also slightly came out of the oven. Is Virgin the only UK mobile phone network offering contracts for less than 18 months?
I'm due to renew with T-Mobile next week, but they tell me that they only offer plans starting from 18 months in duration.
I've always looked forward to getting a new phone every year, as I have done since T-Mobile (then called One2One) was born. I now feel betrayed by them, but would rather not give any money to Virgin due to their net neutrality stance.
Am I hooped?|||I just renewed for 1 year with Three. I have been a customer for 4 years though. All these companies care about is ensuring that they make back the cost of the handset with your line rental, so you can have a great phone, and decent monthly payment for 18 months or more, or a great phone, for 12 months but the monthly payment is higher. I wish I could say the choice is yours, but like you say, companies are limiting your options. Which Australian mobile phone companies work on CDMA platform?
I need FACTS. Answer only if you DO know, and provide references. There are two main kinds of platforms for mobile networks: GSM (which uses a SIM card on the phone), and CDMA which doesn't. I want to know the list of providers that work on the second one. I'm going to Sydney for 6 months and will take my phone over to activate it with an Aussie number. Thank you!|||None, the only provider that use to operate on the CDMA network was Telstra and they don't use that platform anymore, they cancelled it. All phones in Australia now require a SIM card.
Is there any way to reset a mobile phone when its screen is broken?
I was thinking of selling off my mobile phones as faulty for parts on ebay. I wanted to make sure there wasnt any personal stuff left on the phones so is there any way to clear it off? The only real way is if you have a working model and go through the menu on each phone at the same time that way you know you are in the right section. Some resets don't delete picture sand such though. Some will just reset the settings to default. Depending on the phone. But some phones have whats called a "Master Clear" that will delete all of your pics and numbers.|||I am really intrigued, What pictures would you seem to have on this phone that you wish for others not to see?????.
Anyway enough of that, Does it not tell you a full menu plan inside the manuals?? if it does just follow that to the delete all on your pictures and texts!
If not ask at your nearest T-mobile shop how it would be done.

How can I transfer photos from my mobile phone to my laptop?
what is the easiest way to transfer photos I took with my mobile phone to my laptop. I have about 150 photos and I want a quick way to do it..Thank you|||I would recommend that ya get a memory card. You can pick these up at Verizon Wireless and they start out around $29.99. If you do not have an SD card reader built in to your laptop/desktop, I would recommend also getting a memory card reader and they start out at $12.99. Here is the process for transfering your pictures using a memory card:
1. Place the memory card into your phone and save your pictures to it.
2. Then take the card out of your phone and place it in to the memory card reader or SD card slot on your computer.
3. Once the memory card reader/SD Card has the memory card inserted, it will auto prompt you to upload your pictures.

Why are mobile phone companies creating stalker devices?
It seems as though the mobile phone companies are more interested in creating phones that operate as a stalking device these days. If you are using an Android phone with the Google Latitude on their Maps application, then you always know where your Latitude friends are physically located. Why does the government not restrict what these mobile phone manufacturers and service providers are selling?|||The are NOT. You are getting your information from 'reporters' that don't have a clue what they are talking about. ALL of the 'tracking' is 100% VOLUNTARY. If you don't what people to know where you are, you don't have to sign up to TELL them. Will a Polish mobile phone user pay for receiving a call from abroad?
My friend is in Poland with a Polish mobile phone. I am in Denmark with a non-mobile (stationary) phone. If I call her, I will of course pay for calling. But will she have to pay for receiving the call?|||No.
Or, put it this way, an operator running such tariff is not unthinkable, but is very very unlikely.
As you know it is not a custom in Europe to charge for receiving calls (unless when roaming).
It may be even illegal to do this.

How do i call a european mobile phone which is in America?
I will be taking my european mobile phone with me to the states next week. Will my wife be abel to phone me on this mobile? (i actually do want her to be able to call me before you ask!!)
Will she need to change the prefix? the country code or anything else or just hit dial me?
Thanks in advance|||It's easy for her, she just dials the number as normal, no need for a country code.
be aware of two things:
- it will cost both of you a fortune due to the international 'roaming' charges; you have to pay to receive as well as the higher call charges. Suggest texting, which is free to receive and costs only a bit more to send.
- check that the mobile will actually work in the US, I think it needs to be 'GSM compatible'. Your mobile phone manufacturer's website should advise.

the other operating system is symbian favoured by Nokia for example the Nokia N95 is symbian smrartphone, which is like a computer in your pocket. It has stnav built in mp3 players etc.

Is it against my contract to use my mobile phone's internet connection through the laptop?
I'm on t-mobile, on my LG android phone. I found an app that allows me to connect to the internet on my laptop, through a USB cable connected to the phone. I have an unlimited package, so I don't see the problem. I just want to make sure.|||Yes it is against the contract. Yes you have an unlimited data package- but only for the phone itself, not to share that with any other device. if you dont pay for the tethering package, you risk being charged for all the usage, since they can see how much total data you're using through the phone. They also have the power to terminate your line if you're using too much. All carriers are like this.|||No, it is not against the contract. As long as you're paying for the Internet then it's not.
Will a nextel sim work in a boost mobile phone?
i dont want to resign for 2 years with nextel, but i need a new phone. if i buy a boost mobile phone ( looking at the i9 Stature) will i just be able to put in my nextel sim and it work? I have heard it will but it needs to be unlocked first, what does that mean?|||Ok here is the deal...Boost Mobile is Nextel's prepaid phone service. Even though they are pretty much the same company unfornately you still can't interchange the sim cards because of Nextel being programmed as a contract service and Boost is programmed as a prepaid service. Unlocking the phone has nothing to do with the sim card but with the Esn or Meid number which is found on the sticker underneath your battery on your phone. Some retailers will take that number and unlock it so that you can use that phone on any carrier that you wish but you have to find a company that will do that. Without the phone being unlocked you are stuck having to use the phone on the given carrier it belongs to. I hope this has helped and God Bless!
Why does youtube ask for a mobile phone number when registering now?
I live on an island. Whenever I enter my mobile phone number when I'm regestering, it says number not recognized.
MY QUESTION:
How do i make a new account without having to put my own mobile phone number in?|||Getting an actual working mobile phone number during the sign-up process is a way for YouTube to verify that you are a real person and it also prevents you from making hundreds of different accounts (unless you have hundreds of phone numbers too).
So I assume that this island that you claim to live on doesn't offer cell phone service. That makes me wonder why you have a cell phone, if it doesn't work.
My suggestion: Get a working cell phone. Perhaps go to the mainland and visit a public library and establish a YouTube account from there.

How can I use my Gerbil/ hamptser to charge my mobile phone/ camera batteries?
I thought that if I fitted my hampster's wheel with some sort of dynamo I could use it to charge my mobile phone and camera batteries. Has anyone else created such a device?|||Great idea but do an energy analysis first.
Besides a hampster* wheel, a generator, and a control circuit, I think you will need amphetamines and an account at your local pet store for replacement hampsters*.
A good place to start is to find out the watt-hour rating of your battery.
A human can generate about 50 watts on a sustainable basis---don't know what a hampster can generate---perhaps 1/10 watt but the critter would have to exert effort. If it has to exert effort, I suspect hampsters* are not all that different than humans---saying in a hampster sort of way "to h*** with this!"
*hampster, a hamster from the East Hamptons.|||you need to find the output voltage of this dynamo you also need to find out which terminals on your batteries are positive and negative then you need to change the voltage to whatever the charging voltage on your phone is (something over ~3.7vdc) and then throw in a protection circuit.
good luck.|||I've got something similar. I've a tread mill that my pet octopus, Crystal, uses. When she gets all eight of these legs going I can power the whole house. Costing me a fortune in trainers and she gets through a lot of digestive biscuits (keeps her energy up). Hope that helps|||can't you teach them how to plug it into the regular charger instead ?
what about taking parts from those flashlights that you crank up to run, voltage may be low though.|||Of course! Just go to Japan and you will see the first ever hamster powered vehicle. And what the hell is the word hampster. There's no word like that.|||I think it can be done.Best of luck.|||Put strips of dis-similar metals into the hamster. About 10 sets of them, in series, would give sufficient voltage to charge a cellphones.
After a very long time, you'd need new metal strips. Long before that, you need a new hamster.

My mobile phone has been stolen,is there anyway to destroy a mobile phone completely, just to give 'who took it' a lesson.|||Call it from a land line non stop.
Mobile phone hacking is carried out by people who work at the phone networks, so why aren't they arrested?
We all know that to hack someones mobile phone/voice mail you would need to know someone or have them approach you from within the mobile phone network company, i.e. Vodafone, O2 etc. to record, copy any communications made by any mobile phone.
So, do the journalists agree to protect these unscrupulous individuals who work at the phone network and take any such lawful blame for them - if any leaked messages/conversations are brought to a court of law?|||They listen in all the time to our conversations. But that's legal.

Does anyone know how I could get free music onto my mobile phone?
I really need more music on my mobile but i dont know how!?
I mean, i don't want to get any viruses or anything.
I have got itunes and quite alot of songs on there but i dont think you can get them onto a mobile phone.?
Thank You!|||If you have a cable that connects to your computer, do that, find some songs and put it into the music folder on your mobile.
If you have WAP, upload it to a free WAP hosting website, then download it onto your phone.
If you have a bluetooth computer and mobile, then do the same thing as you would with a data cable, but you might need software.
If its a motorola phone, get motorola phone tools, it's great (if you have bluetooth or a cable that connects your phone to your computer).

Do i have to pay for accessing the internet outside via Wi-Fi with my mobile phone?
I am planning to buy a Wi-Fi phone and i was wondering if accessing to the internet with the Wi-Fi function is completely free of charge without having to pay my mobile network provider for data on my phone bill as well as my ISP?|||using wifi on a phone has nothing to do with the phone operator or even reception. (to give you an idea you don't need a sim card for it to work)
however the phone will act as a normal user on the network as though a laptop or pc was connected, so it will use up your quota if at home, and will probably cost money if using a wireless outside pay as you go hotspot (you will not be charged unknowlingly though)
some places like mcdonalds and starbucks have wifi in all their restaurants for their customers completely free|||Wi-fi is not under mobile carriers. That more under an ISP (internet service provider). Either way its free even if its not your control|||its free if your using a wireless singnal and not pay per minute internet|||yes u right!!. all f.o.c (free of charge)

Is it ok to charge a mobile phone every night?
I keep telling my partner, but he will not listen.
He puts his mobile phone on charge every night, regardless of how much battery has gone, and recharges it for the morning.
My belief was that by doing that it affects the life of the battery.
Am I right or is he ok to do that long term every night.|||With the old type batteries, this wasn't a good idea - the battery would eventually build up a memory and would not charge to full capacity. However, with the new type Lith ion batteries, this is not an issue. It is fine to top up these batteries as and when required and you don't have to wait until the thing runs out completely bnefore charging, it won't build up a memory.
However, it is a good idea to let the battery run out completely and do a full recharge every so often, perhaps once or twice a month. Likewise when the battery is brand new, use the battery till fully discharged, then do a full recharge. Do this for the first few charges to allow the battery to be able to charge up to it's fullest. After this, fine to top up with a full recharge every couple of weeks.|||Yes, your're right. Charging it every night lowers the battery life. I've done it with both of my iPods, iPad and 3 laptops. It's best to give them a quick 2-3 hour charge then disconnect charger and turn the phone off.|||Hi.I see where you are coming from too.It could affect his battery life in the long run yes. It is his phone after all. If he won't listen then let him suffer the consequences later.

I prefer free solutions.|||Usually as long as you have connected your mobile phone and computer successfully, you can access any internet resources through your mobile phone, just like you are using your computer.

So that way you can call anytime anywhere to skype user or any other mobile or even landline with their paying service and only pay unlimited data on your mobile phone.... sounds complicated but please any answer would be greatly appreciated.|||No you have to pay to call cell phones and landlines but if the user youre calling has skype wether on pc or phone psp ect you can call them through skype as long as there is internet|||i think so because i have skype too and i use it to call phones but i heard that you pay
Are you contented with a basic cell phone or mobile phone?
Actually these days, mobile or cell phones have already a variety of features in them that goes beyond making phone calls.
However, do you really need these extra features? Do you really need features such as web surfing or sms or watching video?
If you a given a FREE mobile or cell phone that allows you to only make calls, will you be contented with it?|||Although I like having pictures of my cats and boyfriend on my phone, I don't need a camera phone. And I think if I actually had to call people to tell them the little things I text them I would have either closer friends because we'd end up chatting more often or friends who get annoyed with me calling them all the time!! Internet would be cool for those situations when you want to look up the hours a store is open or when movie showtimes are, but really we survived millions of years without internet, there's no need to have it with us 24/7, and I see no need for youtube or facebook to be on your phone, I'd just use it for basic info if I had internet on my phone
If it was FREE though I would definitely give up photos and text messages and phone internet, considering my plan is almost $60 a month. That would save me like $700 a year!!|||Sure ... but I have gotten used to "texting" once in a while.
I don't need my phone to surf the 'net ... I have a laptop for that.|||Absolutely not!! All those features that come on a lot of cell phones these days come in extremely handy... Its nice to have any info that you need at a click of a button... My bf has a Blackberry, but with no data plan... I really dont know how he lives without it, lol...

I am having problems with a mobile phone, where can I find the governments view on what a warranty is?
I have a broken mobile phone and the company will not fix it due to physical damage. I believe its due to bad design and or wear and tear. The product is less than six months old. What are they obilged to do legally?|||I guess they are arguing tht the damage was not accidental as most normally replace the phone or repair it in such cases.Unfortunatly the onus is on you to prove tht it was accidental.Try trading standards website or phone them.Have they said something like if you send it in we will look at it but if we think it was your fault and not down to poor manufacture or accidental then you will have to pay the cost of repair if they have then I would consider this option or suggest it to them. The law does state however tht any goods sold by a company must be of merchantable quality and be fit for the job they are intended, it doesnt give any time periods for or how long this applies.|||If you've damaged it, they are probably not liable. Check your house contents insurance. If you have comprehensive all risks cover they may sort it out. Otherwise go to Citizens Advice. It's free. Good luck.

Can I claim the cost a mobile phone tariff as a business expense?
I have recently purchased a second mobile phone tariff. Can I claim the monthly cost of the tariff as a business expense as the purpose of tariff is purely for business?|||You can take out the bills and do so|||If you are running a business then you can deduct all expenses that are "wholly and exclusively" incurred for business purposes. So if this phone is solely for business use then you can claim the entire cost. Having a mobile phone is normal for many business people, so this is not unusual.
In practice where things are shared between business and personal use HMRC allows you to claim a fraction of the cost as an expense, to reflect the fraction that is used for the business. So if you use this phone 90% for business and 10% for personal use then you can claim 90% of the total cost as an expense.|||Yes, but you will need to demonstrate this is so.

How do I get Mobile phone number for pakistan?
I live in US and plan to go to Pakistan, does anyone know if I can get Pakistani Mobile Phone number (Mobilink-Jazz) in the US.
I will only use it in Pak, I have the phone %26amp; I know where to get the charge/scratch card.
Thanks in Advance|||First thing first. There is absolutely no way, you can purchase a Mobilink sim card in the US. Even, if any one offers you one in the US, do NOT take it as it might have been misused.
Once you reach Pakistan, the best way to get a brand new sim is to visit one of the franchises. It will cost you somewhere around $3 to $5. They can even register the sim and number in your name. As I am not sure which city you're going to visit, select it the following link and you'll get a franchise contact details.

Is it possible that a mobile phone is another kind of addiction?
Well, many don't even realize how much they are depending on a mobile phone.
Some they stand up in the morning and the first thing what they do is to call somebody.
Some they just ignore all warnings and just talk on the phone in the car.
Many, especially women are going around with the phone all the time on their ear, crossing the road blind, entering the bus and drive 10 stations and still they talk.
Is this another kind of drug?
Let鈥檚 see what we can come up with.|||Yes its becoming a massive addiction for a lot of people, last night we saw a couple walking through town, holding hands and texting on their phones with their free hands, how sad is that, who wants to go on a date with a texting addict, I thought you were supposed to go out to get to know one another, you see little kids out on the streets with their phone either stuck to their ears or their walking, head down, texting away and not loOKing were they are going, god forbid one of them gets run over by not concentrating, my niece comes to our house for her tea every Thursday and spends more time texting on her phone and answering the damn thing than she does talking to us or watching her child, that job seems to be down to us when she appears, I have asked her would she mind turning her phone off while were eating and her attitude is, but I might miss a fun text or call, how sad their life's must be if they don't know how to have a decent conversation, in April this year we were on holiday in Cuba and a lot of people's mobile phones wouldn't work out there, you should have seen them, it was like they had lost a best mate or something, even when they are supposed to be away relaxing they have to have their mobile with them, please, ok yes I do have a mobile phone myself, its for emergency only and I only use it for that reason, I prefer to talk to people, please don't let the art of conversation die.|||Thanks for the points and you sound a lovely family, just top up phones that have to last with 拢10 per month, us too, carry on been as lovely as you are.

How important is a mobile phone for a person?
In India, almost every person carries a mobile phone. I don't think they really need them. Even a cobbler or a auto rickshaw driver and most of the students carry one. Knowing that it is hazardous to use it for most of the time, we see people talking on phones for hours. People keep is for a mere "show off".
No doubt, there are people who really need them.
But why do the others want ? Why can't this change?|||Very few of us actually need one. Ours (and yes, it was a shared one) conked out recently and we have not replaced it. The only time I felt that I needed a mobile phone was when I was on the move as a self employed person and had to pick up work related messages. Our local phone company offers attractive packages to persuade people to talk ad infinitum and they do. But seldom -- very seldom -- does the conversation seem of any importance. It is usually inane chat. However, it is considered vital to a person's social standing to have one of these things. The only people who can afford to opt out are the people who don't care about social standing.|||I think there needs to be cell phone etiquette, and some one should write a book about bad place's and times to use a cell phone. We should not be driving down the road TeX messaging or on the phone talking with some one other than who's in the car When we are out eating or @ home with our family's we shouldnt be on the phone constantly it is down right rude that we cant even have a conversation with some one without them reaching 4their phone or it ringing every5. minutes. Life used to exist for every one with out a cell phone strapped to their hip and we all got through life fine we used a phone if we need to @ home %26amp; some of us used the phone @ work as well. But the point is , is that no one needed a cell phone till they got a cell phone.|||For me it is very important. Not just because I live in the states but because I am always on the go. Many of our pay telephone booths are gone because of the mobile phones. I do not have a phone in my home because I am hardly ever home to use it. I work all day, then go pick up my kids, go to the market and or have to take them to some after school activity - sports ect. I know that many people under the age of 25 buy them as a status symbol and always want the next newest technology. Those of us that work and are on the go though use them as a necessity. I still have the same phone I bought 3 yrs ago and use the same company. I even bought one for my 10 yrs old daughter to use at her after school activities where there may not be a phone easily accessible or when we go to the stores or out in public just incase we loose sight of eachother. She doesn't get to keep it all the time and is learning that it is not a toy but a tool to help her in case she needs to call me or my husband. I don't think cell phones are that bad of a thing for purposes they are intended for, to keep in communication with others. We are a busy society unlike 20 yrs ago, so the need to be able to contact someone at a moments notice is a good thing. Those that buy it for show or to impress are too shallow to recognize it's true use and end up wasting money for nothing.|||I am one that is in my opinion addicted to my cell phone. My husband first had me get it because I was going to school at night and he said if you are going to be out there you need a phone and Triple A road service just in case. I agreed and still have both. And yeah I finished school now I use it when I travel. It was a great way to communicate when my flight was cancelled and I needed to book another flight, it beat waiting in the long line. But what a hoot when I looked for a pay phone?? I thought do they even still make them...The answer yes they do.|||Not really important at all. I've noticed that people talk more on cellphones but communicate less.

I have a new mobile phone and it needs to be charged but silly me, I forgot to plug in the battery.
so, my questions are: 1. is it okay to charge the mobile phone without the battery? 2. will the electric current damages the mobile phone? actually i just want to know if my mobile phone will get affected by this silly incident? thank you :) your answers are very appreciated.|||i dont think it will do anything because the battery isnt in it. when you charge a phone you are charging the battery, not the phone itself. youre fine.|||Well the battery is what holds the electrical charge, if there is no battery then the phone can't be charged, thus nothing happens neither harmful or beneficial.
Nothing to worry about. They include this as a possible mistake in designing the product so no harm comes to anything.

Can I switch my Virgin Mobile phone to a Sprint phone?
I'm so tired of my little Virgin Mobile phone itself, not the plans and all, just the phone. Since Virgin Mobile and Sprint have the same service, would I be able to switch the Virgin Mobile phone wit a Sprint Blackberry?
Any answers, thanks.|||Put the sim in and find out.|||This "best answer" is not a good answer. Sprint/Virgin Mobile phones do not use a sim card.
|||Virgin Mobile has either a prepaid contract price or pay-as-you-go. With either one, you are paying for the phone since there are no contracts, so you can go buy a new phone whenever you want. By the same token, you can drop the Virgin Mobile service at any time.
If you switch to Boost, which is the same type of service, you just buy the phone and get started. What you want is around $150.
Or, you can go to Sprint and get a contract and a PDA style phone that is heavily discounted when you sign a contract.
Either way, all of these - Virgin, Boost, and Sprint - run over the Sprint network.|||I don't think so. Even though they use the same network, I think you need a phone with the proprietary Virginmobile firmware to access your account.
I know that with Tmobile-to-Go it is possible to upgrade to an unlocked or contract quality phone (you pay full price for the phone). Phone features that aren't supported by your plan won't give service unless you upgrade the plan. Unlocked phones require some configuration for services beyond voice calls to work.

What is the total I need to pay to activate a Virgin Mobile phone?
If I were to buy a new LG Optimus V today and wanted to activate it, how much will I have to pay at the end of the activation if I choose the $25/month plan? Will I have to pay for my first month today? Will I have to pay anything today?
Please respond if you HAVE HAD experience buying a Virgin Mobile phone. Do not post any assumptions.|||I recently activated a virgin mobile phone. You just buy the phone and pay nothing to activate it. You can do this by phone or online. Once activated you will need to buy a 25 dollar top up card then add it to your account. Once the money is added you will buy the 25 dollar plan which is good for one month

Where can I unlock a mobile phone for free?
Hi,
I have recently bought a Samsung Tocco Lite mobile phone that is locked onto the O2 network.
Does anyone know if I can get the code anywhere for free and if I should trust any websites.
Thanks.|||as far as I know free codes does not unlock your phone, so even if you would find a unlock code or whatever you'd have to spend some money.

Hope this helps.|||The best site is www.fonefunshop.co.uk they are tops when it comes to phone unlocking
|||This phone can be expensive to unlock, but if you need it unlocked for free, I have had good experiences with a site called http://www.freeunlocks.com where basically you complete an advertising offer in exchange for the unlock code (see the source link for an article written by freeunlocks themselves regarding the process, which I found useful). If this is not for you, feel free to buy one on other sites, but for people like me who cannot afford it, FreeUnlocks was a great solution. Unfortunately, I am unsure as of how many offers you will get access to in Africa, but it is definitely worth a try.
Also, I made a 2 min video of me unlocking my phone, so I received $5 from freeunlocks by paypal; the only catch being that I had to say their name in the video...

What is the profit margin per minute for a mobile phone?
I keep getting the weak excuse from my mobile provider that they cant let me upgrade my phone at a discount because they have to make up the money they discounted me on my last phone. I always understood the phones as expendable and the plans as the money maker. I need ammo to complain to my mobile provider.|||I know that you want ammo, and unfortunatly I can't give you any. I can help explain why companies only allow discounts every once in a while.
First of all, when you set up service you get a substantial discount on phones. A free phone for example was not given to the cell phone company. Most phones that you get for free will actually cost the cell phone company upwards of $125. Next while you are getting your free phone, someone who works for the company has to help set it up.
Most reps are paid on an hourly basis, and a complete sale can take up to an hour. That rep has to make an hourly rate, and for arguments sake, lets call it $10 per hour.
Now, when you set up service, generally you are in a store, and most cell companies rent their locations. Lets call that amount $2000 per month. Now, since most companies don't do that every hour, your time in the store just cost them aproxametly $15. Next, you have all the other expenses that you have at a home. Heat/AC, water, electricty, and the cost of all the machines that the company has in the store (i.e computers, phones, copiers).
After that, you have to remember that most companies have customer service call centers. Some of these call centers do nothing, but help you. Meaning no income for the company is generated out of these places.
Now it comes to you actually getting a signal on your phone. Cell phone towers, in general, cost upwards of $250,000 per cell site. That doesn't include the land lease, and insurance that they have to pay for for EACH site. Now remember cell towers have a range of 8-12 miles, and if there is a lot of voice traffic on the cell sites they may have to put up more towers in the area.
Now, if the company can't put up a tower in an area, they have to use another companies tower. Most cell companies call these roaming partners. These partners charge you carrier a roaming rate that your company may or may not pass on to you. If you have a national carrier (Cingular or Verizon) they do not pass the extra charge on to you.
Basically, if you figure out the costs associated with setting up one person, the cell companies lose 300-400 per customer that they set up. Now, a cell company will make a lot of that money back up while you are on your plan. But, if you are on a very low plan ($39.99 a month or lower) it will take the company an average up to 16 months to recoup that money.
Now, think about that number if a customer gets a phone that costs the cell phone company more than $125.
Favorite thing that I ever heard at a cell phone store about this very issue.
Customer: I lost my phone, and I want a new one. I am under contract, and I want a free phone.
Rep: Unfortunatly, because you are under contract, you would have to pay full price for a phone.
Customer: (Sounding upset) I've been with this company for x amount of years!!! You should just give me a phone because I've been such a good customer!!
Rep: I've shopped at the same store for the last 9 years, and they won't even give me a free gallon of milk!!!|||- There are various people achieving different percentage of profits according to their status.
- It ranges like Manufacturers, Importers, local stockist, Dealer, etc.

Would my mobile phone work with a USA sim card in the states?
Could I send my mobile phone (a cheap nokia) to my uncle in the USA, for him to put a US sim card in it to use?
