Why is it more expensive to call the mobile phone 3 feet away from you than a person 5,000 kms away?

It seems like international calls are getting cheaper and cheaper, but mobile phone calls never do. Why is that?|||i think you wrong. i work for t-mobile and international calling is very expensive, but if you want to call more often, try another service provider (like t-mobile) or use a calling card.|||I used to work for Cingular Wireless, basically...all cell phones share a single cell site. Land line phones share sites with other land lines.|||ummmm i think your crazy cause it costs way much more to call internationally
